Living With Anthuriums

Sometimes it begins with a single leaf. A silver vein against deep green velvet. An unfamiliar shape. A surface that changes as the light moves across it.

Each plant brings its own character, and a collection becomes a reflection of the things you notice and love.

Living With Anthuriums

A collection with character

There is no single Anthurium look. Some leaves feel architectural, with strong lines and generous curves. Others are narrow, rippled, glossy, or wonderfully unexpected. A young leaf can look very different from the one beside it, giving you a reason to return and look again.

We are drawn to that individuality. When we curate plants, we look for the details that make a specimen memorable: its silhouette, texture, color, and the way those elements come together. Rarity is part of the story. The connection you feel to the plant matters, too.

Get to know the plant you bring home

Anthurium is a diverse genus, so care begins with identifying your particular plant. Ask about its parentage when known, the conditions it was grown in, and whether it has recently been imported or repotted. That context is more useful than expecting every Anthurium to follow the same routine.

As a starting point, many cultivated Anthuriums appreciate bright, indirect light, warmth, and a growing medium that holds some moisture while draining freely. Keep water from collecting in the bottom of a decorative pot. Check the medium before watering rather than relying only on a weekly calendar, and adjust for your plant and growing conditions.

Make room to notice

Give a favorite plant a place where you can enjoy its shape. Leave a little space around the foliage. Look at it in morning light, then again later in the day. You may find that a quiet corner becomes somewhere you stop without meaning to.

A collection does not need to grow quickly to feel meaningful. Start with the plant you keep thinking about. Learn its habits. Let the next addition be one you have room to care for and a reason to love.

There is plenty of wonder in one leaf.
